This fall, ITER-Belgium and the Association “EURATOM-Belgian State” will host the Fusion Expo. This is an exhibition on fusion and its potential as a possible sustainable future energy source. The expo also describes the exact role of the next step fusion machine, ITER, which will be located in Cadarache (France) and will unite the efforts of 7 international partners, namely the European Union, the USA, the Russian Federation, India, Japan, China and South-Korea. In terms of the total number of inhabitants of the countries involved, and in view of the multitude of technologies required to build and operate the device, ITER is viewed by some as the most ambitious project mankind has ever initiated.
Fusion is the process that drives the stars. Fusing nuclei of light atoms releases energy that can be used to produce electricity. The visitors will learn about this fascinating and interesting topic by panels, models, movies and interactive tools. Although the exhibition can be appreciated by all, it is especially tuned to third degree secondary school students.
The Fusion Expo will be held at the Palace of the Academies (right next to the Royal Palace), 1 Rue Ducale / Hertogstraat 1 in Brussels from October 25 until November 15 and its entrance is free.
Interested teachers can find detailed information on the www site http://www.iterbelgium.be, where they can also request to be sent a paper version of the poster of the exhibition (see picture) via "Contact us" . Whereas individuals can visit unannounced, groups are strongly encouraged to make prior reservations via the above website.
